CHMK and KEF Launch Global Strategic Partnership to Empower Kurdish Diaspora

CHMK, LONDON: The Kurdish Media Watchdog Organization (CHMK) and the Kanga Educational Foundation (KEF) have formally reaffirmed their global strategic partnership, following the landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in London by Dr.Shwan Adam Aivas and Shawbo Muhemmed on 13 October 2015. This renewed commitment solidifies a cross-cultural alliance dedicated to advancing media literacy and quality education for the new generation of the Kurdish diaspora.

This strategic alliance establishes a global framework for cooperation, focusing on media literacy education, professional media reform, and the intellectual empowerment of the new generation of the Kurdish diaspora. Rooted in a shared commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), the partnership aims to bridge the gap between Western and Non-Western media cultures. By combining CHMK’s technical expertise in media monitoring with KEF’s robust educational infrastructure in the United Kingdom, the two organizations will invest in the “intellectual capital” of Kurdish youth worldwide.

Under the terms of the agreement, KEF will serve as the Official UK and International Secretariat, acting as the lead fiscal host for funding applications to UK-based and international grant-making bodies. This collaboration allows both organizations to leverage their facilities to apply for and manage funds globally, ensuring a sustainable impact on media standards and literacy.

Dr. Shwan Adam Aivas, Chairperson of CHMK, emphasized the importance of this milestone and said that “This partnership represents a national investment in our youth. By aligning our ‘Integrity Walls’ framework with global educational standards, we are not just monitoring media, we are training the next generation to be critical thinkers and ethical digital citizens.”

The partnership will be activated through several high-impact mechanisms, including: Media Literacy Workshops via targeted training for Kurdish diaspora youth in London boroughs and beyond. The 3rd CHMK National Forum on Media Reform, which is a high-level confrence bringing together international academics and practitioners. Cross-Cultural Roundtables vy professional dialogues between Western and Kurdish media that experts to combat misinformation and protect individual privacy.

Kurdish Media Watchdog Organisation (CHMK) is an independent, non-profit organization founded by Kurdish academics. It is dedicated to observing, evaluating, and reporting on media standards to promote democratic values and human rights.
