CHMK National Forums on Media Reform Recognized in International Academic Journals

Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region: The outcomes of the First and Second National Forums on Media Reform, organized by the Kurdish Media Watchdog Organization (CHMK.org), have been recognized in an international peer-reviewed study.

The article, Toward Media Reform in Post-Conflict Region of Kurdistan: An Analytical Case Study of the CHMK National Forums,” was recently published in the ISRG Journal of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (Impact Factor 5.4).

CHMK.org, in partnership with the University of Sulaimani (UoS) and with the media sponsorship of Kirkuk TV, hosted the two national forums in 2021 and 2025. Both events produced key recommendations for government institutions, civil society, journalists, and media organizations.

The study highlights that while the 2021 forum focused on establishing legal and structural frameworks for media professionalism, the 2025 forum moved toward practical implementation—expanding reforms, modernizing curricula, and restructuring institutions. This evolution reflects a shift from critique to action, bridging the gap between theoretical frameworks and applied governance in media reform.
