CHMK and DidgaAid Sign Strategic Memorandum of Understanding

CMK, Erbil: In a significant step toward internationalizing Kurdish media standards and academic excellence, the Kurdish Media Watchdog Organization (CHMK) and DidgaAid for International Development officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in Erbil’s Capital City of Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

 

The agreement was signed by Prof. Mohammed Hussein Ahmad, Chairperson of DidgaAid, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Shwan Adam Aivas, Chairperson of CHMK. Both parties agreed on a strategic roadmap to launch joint projects and programs within and beyond the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, focusing on sustainable development and professional capacity building. The MoU outlines a framework for high-level cooperation in several key areas, including: International Media Development via enhancing the professional standards of Kurdish journalism to align with global benchmarks. Digital Literacy & Education through promoting digital literacy initiatives and integrating modern communication ethics into the educational landscape. Academic Synergy by strengthening ties between local and international institutions to elevate the quality of higher education and scientific research. Additionally, a central highlight of this partnership is the joint commitment to commemorate the 128th anniversary of Kurdish Journalism Day. Both organizations decided to mark this historic occasion through a pioneering scientific symposium designed to critically evaluate the current state of the media and propose practical reforms for the future.

Kurdish Media Watchdog Organisation (CHMK) is an independent, non-profit organization founded in 2017 by a group of prominent academics. It specializes in monitoring, evaluating, and researching professional violations within the media. CHMK’s primary mission is to protect the rights of Kurdish individuals and society against unprofessional media interference by designing practical agendas to correct systemic journalistic errors and promote media accountability.

DidgaAid for International Development is an independent NGO serving as a strategic bridge between local and global communities. The agency provides comprehensive programs addressing critical challenges in education, justice, and sustainable human development. Its institutional structure is designed for accountability and adaptability, ensuring it meets the dynamic needs of both local and global landscapes.
