CHMK, Kurdistan Region of Iraq— A group of Kurdish scholars recently published research in the International Journal of Social Science and Education Research Studies (ISSN) that critically engages with epistemological issues by analysing the concept of truth claims. According to their abstract, the study “critically examines epistemological topics by exploring the notion of truth claims in the works of De Mello (1999) and Hansen and Rand (2006). The research primarily employs a positivist theoretical framework, which incorporates a range of methodologies commonly used in economics and finance, aiming to establish a link between positivism and the study of economic and financial phenomena. By drawing upon core positivist principles and perspectives, the paper facilitates a rigorous critical analysis (Yaqub, 2024). The authors emphasise this approach because economists frequently utilise mathematical modelling to identify truths. Nevertheless, the study acknowledges the significant limitations of positivism, especially within the social sciences. To evaluate these truth claims, the researchers apply a positivist framework that includes various alternative approaches to economics and finance research.”
