CHMK, ERBIL: The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has issued a new directive prohibiting media outlets and social media platforms from publishing videos or images of crime scenes and suspects.
The directive, issued by the Department of Media and Information (DMI) at the Council of Ministers, was circulated to all government ministries and institutions. It explicitly bans the broadcasting of raw footage related to criminal incidents.
The move follows a formal request from the Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC). The Commission urged the Council of Ministers to restrict both direct and indirect coverage of crimes and suspects to preserve the integrity of ongoing investigations and to protect the psychological well-being and social dignity of citizens.
